Arthur was the last of the nine children born to Mark Lester Bollhoefer and Pearl Lucinda McDaniel, who married on 8 Feb 1922 in Huntington Co., Indiana. His older siblings were: Phillip, Ethel, Anna, Henry, Von, Alta, Pauline, and Fred.

NOTE: There were competing F.A.G. memorials for Pearl, each with different surnames and each with only some of her children linked to it. A merge was suggested. It seems a nephew has a record of a marriage to Charles Benkey. Pearl's second husband Cecil Redding died in 1956, and given that Pearl had 25 years left before her death in 1981, she could certainly have remarried. I couldn't find a record of it but that don't mean a thing.

The family appeared on the 1930 Census living in Jefferson, Huntington Co., Indiana. Mark Bollhoefer, 28, was a farmer. Pearl, 26, was keeping house. There to both cheer her days and wear her out were Phillip, 7; Ethel, 6; Anna, 4; Henry, 3; and 1-year-old Von.

Four years later, the family welcomed son Fred. He was in a bit of a hurry to join his family and arrived two months early on 7 May 1934. Sadly, he died a week later on 14 May 1934. It is hoped that Arthur's arrival on 21 Jun 1935 brought a measure of joy back to the family.

That joy would have been short-lived as a year later, the family lost husband and father Mark Bollhoefer on 22 Sep 1936, claimed by pneumonia and septic poisoning.

With eight children in the balance, Pearl remarried the following year, wedding Cecil A. Redding on 4 Dec 1937. It was also a second go-around for Cecil. He had previously married Marcella Benton on 24 Sep 1922, and they had had two children together—Nina and Harold. Marcella died on 14 Jul 1936, just two months before Pearl lost Mark.

I found their blended family on the 1940 Census, living in Jefferson Township. Cecil Redding, 36, was a farmer. Pearl, 36, was keeping house. There with their father/step-father and mother/step-mother were Pearl's eight children: Phillip, 17; Ethel, 16; Anna, 14; Henry, 13; Von, 11; Alta, 9; Pauline, 7; and Arthur, 4; and Cecil's two children Nina, 16; and Harold, 10. Also there was Cecil's mother Alice Redding.

By the time the 1950 Census came due, part of the Redding family was living in Grayson, Texas. Cecil H. Redding, 49, was the owner operator of a gas station. Pearl, 46, was working as a clerk in the station. Still with their parents/step-parents were two of Pearl's children—Pauline, 17; and Arthur, 14—Cecil's son Harold, 20, along with Harold's wife Roxie.

On 4 Dec 1956, Pearl and Cecil would have celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary. Two days shy of that celebration, Cecil died on 2 Dec 1956 at age 56, claimed by pneumonia and a stroke.

On 24 Nov 1957, Arthur married Rosella Carol Hartle. They went on to have three daughters and two sons.
