Mrs. Andrew Miedema, nee Gertie Ruisch, was born at Ee, Friesland, the Netherlands, on September 25, 1867. She was the daughter of Klaas and Renske Veenema Ruisch. On Saturday morning, August 4, 1956 at 4:45 a.m. she passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Braafhart Sr. having reached the age of 88 years, 10 months and 9 days. On May 25, 1888 she was united in marriage with Andrew Miedema, who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1927. Also preceding her in death were 2 sons. Surviving her are 4 sons and 4 daughters: Gerrit Miedema of Pella; Yella Miedema of Clinton, Wisc.; Willem Miedema of Pella; Hattie, Mrs. Jake Ver Woert, Sara, Mrs. Will Willemsen, Pete Miedema, Clara, Mrs. Nick Braafhart and Gertie, Mrs. Ralph Van Brogen all of Pella.
Also surviving are 32 grandchildren and 51 greatgrandchildren. She was a kind and loving mother and her kindness will long be remembered. Although she had not felt well for a long time and has been bedfast for the past several months, she was still always cheerful and never cornplained. She was patient till the Lord took her home.
Funeral services were conducted from the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home on Monday, August 6, 1956 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Anthony Haverkamp in charge. Burial was made in Graceland Cemetery. Mrs. Ralph De Cook accompanied Mrs. Arnold De Bruin and Mrs. Carl Vogela as they sang two numbers, 'What a Friend' and "Nearer My God to Thee." Serving as casket bearers were Henry Willemsen; Henry Ver Woert: Pete Miedema: Donald Van Brogen: Jacob Miedema and Nick Braafhart, Jr.
