John Feir Pratt was born 9 December 1873 in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada, the eldest son of Thomas Alexander Pratt (1849-1929) and Henrietta Feir Pratt (1848-1912). He married May Secombe (1873-1913) on 8 June 1895 in Canada. They had 3 children together. A few years after her death, John was married to Helen [Pratt] (1877-1956), who emigrated from England in 1905. John died on 1 March 1942 in North Riverside, Illinois, and was buried at Forest Cemetery in Maplewood, MN. His second wife, Helen was buried adjacent to him in 1956 in an unmarked grave.
