Retiring in 1984, he worked at Bucyrus Erie for 33 years and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. He played the guitar and also enjoyed football and baseball.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Harry, George and William Sayers, and as infants, Eddie and Jimmy Sayers; and three sisters, Anna May Shrum, June Cooper and Leota Hulings.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marion Black Sayers; three sons, Lester W. Sayers and his wife, Carol, of Erie, David K. Sayers and his wife, Janice, of Wesleyville and Ronald R. Sayers and his wife, Lisa, of Girard; a daughter, Vickie L. Yovich and her husband, Ken, of Mill Village; two brothers, Everett Sayers and his wife, Mable, of Mumford, N.Y., and Russell Sayers and his wife, Shirley, of Summerville; three sisters, Myrtle Cooper of Erie, Mable Fingado and her husband, David, of Mechanicsville and Shirley Evans and her husband, Steven, of Gillett; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
