Danbury, NH - William R. Cook, Sr., 76, of Ragged Mountain Road, died Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, NH.
He was born in Ipswich, MA on February 18, 1935 the son of Eugene and Mabel (Casey) Cook. Bill spent his early years in Ipswich and moved to Danbury in 1948. He had been a caretaker on a farm in Tamworth, NH from Feb. 1956 to Oct. 1956 and also on a farm in Amenia NY from 1966-1968 and was a logger for Myrl Phelps and cut wood for Dalphond Brothers in Andover. In 1987 he started his own logging business and had also logged with horses for Dan Russ in Franklin. Bill built the family home in 1978 with a chainsaw.
He is predeceased by a brother, David. Members of his family surviving include his wife of 56 years, Betty A. (Phelps) Cook of Danbury, NH; three children, William R. Cook, Jr. of Sanbornton, NH, Dale J. Cook of Danbury, NH and Pamela J. Desnoyers of Franklin, NH; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three brothers, John of Salt Lake City, UT, Richard of Newburyport, MA and Donald of Franklin, NH; four sisters, Evelyn Hetnar and Dorothy Tabor of Ipswich, MA, Vivian Gove of Newburyport, MA and Marjorie Cook of Epping, NH; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, NH on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 6-8 P.M. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in Riverdale Cemetery, Danbury, NH.
