Rosella (Rosie) Smith Rice, quietly passed away on Thursday,
Dec. 26, 2002 at her home after a valiant fight with cancer.
Rosie was born Aug. 29, 1928 in Lamar, MO. to William Alva Smith and Martha Ellen Hartman Smith. On Nov. 3, 1947 she married Ted M Rice. They lived in the Portland/Vancouver area during their early years together.
Since 1952, she and Ted have made their home in Scappoose. Rosie's life was one of devoted selfless caring for her family. She taught her childred by quiet example. Her grandchildren brought so much joy. Her great-grandchildren shared with her time, memories and Grandma always had special treats.
Rosie loved the flowers and birds that graced her yard. Many hours were spent tending beautiful vegetable garden, and preserving the bounty of her harvest that we all have enjoyed.
An accomplished homemaker in the finest sense, she was a master seamstress, she received honors for her handwork. In later years, quilting became her passion. We all treasure her quilts and will miss that great talent. We have the memory of her hands lovingly quilting each piece and the beautiful sparkle in her eyes as each was given.
Rosie loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by Ted, her devoted husband of 55 years. Daughter Linda Scott of Deer Island, son Ted M Rice Jr of Scappoose, daughter Carol Baker of Evanston WY. 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also her mother Martha age 97, and 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
The family wishes to thank hospice for their loving care. At her request, a private family memorial was held. Internment will be at the Scappoose Fairview Cemetery.
