Edward first appeared in the 1850 census living in Taunton with his parents. According to the 1859 Taunton City Directory, he was a laborer boarding at John Galligans at 6 Furnace Court. In 1866, he was a packer at Phoenix Mfg. Co. and lived at 2 Furnace Ct. During the 1870 census Edward and his family were in Taunton and he was working as a laborer.

May 27, 1863 Taunton, Massachusetts:
Edward Galligan, age 24, born in Taunton, married Bridget Conlon, age 20, born in Taunton. He was the son of John and Rose, she was the daughter of Patrick and Mary.

No record of birth was found for Bridget. She was first found in the 1850 census living in Taunton with her widowed mother, and seven-year-old sister, Elizabeth. Bridget's death record has not been found either.

In 1880 Edward was a widower in Taunton.

Feb 24, 1881 Taunton, Massachusetts:
Edward Galligan, age 39, a packer, born in Taunton, married Mary Jane Gallagher, age 33 born in Taunton. He was the son of John and Rose, she was the daughter of Hugh and Bridget. This was Edward's second marriage and Mary's first.

In 1892 he lived at 26 Berkley St.
During the 1900 census Edward and his family were on Berkely Street in Taunton, Bristol County and he was working as a crucible packer.

On March 3, 1919 in Taunton, MA, Edward B. Galligan, 73, retired, husband of Mary J., born in Taunton to John & Rose (Boylan), died primarily from Lobar Pneumonia. Buried in St. Francis Cemetery by John D. Fahey. Mary J. Galligan, informant.

Edward B. Galligan after an illness of about a week, Edward B. Galligan, a native and life long resident of the Weir Village passed away at the residence of the family, 26 Berkeley Street. Few of the older residents were better known or more highly esteemed than Mr. Galligan . He was born on First Street, the son of the late John and Rose Galligan, and was a kind neighbor and a devoted head of his family. He was for some time in the employ of the A. Field Tack Company, but in later years had worked for the Phoenix and Taunton Crucible works respectively. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish. Mr. Galligan is survived by his wife Mary; two sons, Edward J. Galligan of School Street, this city, and Frank S. Galligan of Norwich, Connecticut; two daughters, Mrs. Andrew J. Galligan and Mrs. L. J. Laughlin; also eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, P.H. Galligan, and a sister, Mrs. Annie Daly. Funeral will be from the residence of the family, 26 Berkeley Street, Wednesday at 8 AM, followed by high mass of requiem at Sacred Heart Church at 9 o'clock.
