I have been doing genealogy research on my family for the past 10+ yrs. I have physically searched halfway across the US for some elusive relatives and endless hours on the internet.
I find it very interesting as to what our ancestors did for a living and how they lived and migrated across continents. While doing this research I have found that it was not an easy life to leave one country and start over in a new land.
I was born in Upper MI and now live in MA
Joining Find A Grave has helped me in my own genealogy research. After another find a grave volunteered to find a grave for me I then thought it a good way to pay it forward by doing searches for others.
When I photograph a marker, I check for inscriptions on both sides and shoot all engravings. Some of the older markers are in bad shape and I try to include all info that is readable off the marker and make sure the photo is clear and composed properly. When I fulfill requests I always note if there are other family members nearby.
I came across a cemetery near me named Mount Nebo Cemetery. I was surprised to see that there were very few memorials listed at find a grave so i took it upon myself to photograph the entire cemetery and add the photos and names to that cemetery. If anyone would like me to transfer ownership of any memorial there, please let me know.
