ROSWELL- A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Crossroads First Assembly of God Church for Ivalene Pirtle Shannon who passed away Nov. 17 at the family home after a long battle with cancer. Services will be conducted by Pastor Blair Overturf. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Ivalene was born Nov. 16, 1932, to James Claude and Anna Jewell Pirtle in Roswell. On Sept. 1, 1950, she married the love of her life Gib Shannon in Roswell. They were blessed with 52 years together before he passed away in October 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Gerald Pirtle of Firebaugh, Calif., Ray Rockow of El Paso, Jesse Pirtle of Olathe, Kan., and Ira Pirtle of Roswell; and one sister, Ruby Ashford of Miami, Ariz. Ivalene is survived by her three sons, Del and wife Debbie Shannon of Roswell, Chuck Shannon of Roswell, and Claude and wife Kathy Shannon of Carlsbad; six grandchildren, Wes and wife Christie Shannon of Moab, Utah, Kelly and husband Robert Dolan of Carlsbad, Heather and husband Billy McDonald of Sanderson, Texas, Ginger Shannon of Amarillo, Texas, Trapper and wife Laura Shannon of Las Cruces, and Jessica Shannon of Carlsbad; and-six great- grandchildren, Griffin and Magnus Shannon, Haven and Dawson Dolan, Randy McDonald and Cyrus Shannon. Ivalene is also survived by two sisters, Marie Pirtle Tucker and husband, Harold, and Phyllis Pirtle Smith all of Roswell; two sisters-in-law, Gay Roberts Pirtle of Roswell and Margaret McConnell Pirtle of Olathe, Kan., and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her. Ivalene was a lifetime member of The First Assembly of God Church. She was a devoted Christian wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother but to her entire family, she was more than this, she was our friend and our hearts will miss her. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Roswell Hospice, Rose, Maribel, Vanessa and Mirna; you gave loving care to our sweetheart, bless you. Pallbearers will be Del Shannon, Chuck Shannon, Claude Shannon, Wes Shannon, Robert Dolan and Billy McDonald. Arrangements are under the direction of La Grone Funeral Home.
