4th Earl of Suffolk

Son of Theophilius Howard, 2nd Earl of Suffolk, and Lady Elizabeth Home. Paternal grandson of Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk, and Katherine Knyvett. Maternal grandson of George Home, 1st and last Earl of Dunbar, and Elizabeth Gordon.

He was a Master of the Horse and a Gentleman of the Bedchamber to the Duke of York, and succeeded his brother in 1689.

George's first wife was Catherine Alleyne, daughter of John Alleyne. Three daughters were born of the marriage - Mary, Anne and Catherine.

In 1686, George married his second wife Anne Wroth, the widow of James Cowper and daughter of John Wroth of Loughton, Essex.

Neither marriage produced a male heir, so when George died he was succeeded by his younger brother Henry.

The 4th Earl of Suffolk is buried in the Howard Vault. The vault, now completely bricked in, was closed in 1860.
