Wife of William Sebastian Sohn, son of Johann Georg 'J.G.' Sohn, one of the 'Beer Barons' of Cincinnati and his wife Barbara.
Johann Georg 'J.G.' Sohn was the son of a brewer. He joined Klotter around 1845 to establish the Hamilton Brewery located at the corner of Hamilton Road and Hamburg Street, now known as McMicken Avenue and Stonewall Street. By the year 1853 the brewery was then known as Klotter, Sohn and Company. About 14 years later Klotter left the brewery to start his own business known as the Bellevue Brewery. By the year 1871 Sohn was joined by Louis Sohngen and Heinrich Schlosser and their business ended up ranking tenth in the Cincinnati area for selling beer. When Sohn died in 1876, his three sons took over. By 1900, William Sohn was the remaining child to run the brewery renaming it William S. Sohn Brewing Company. After his death in 1902, his wife, Lena Jung Sohn, took over the brewery and ran it until 1907. At that time it was renamed Mohawk Brewing Company.
By 1913 the Mohawk Brewery was producing "Old Gold Lager" and Bohemian beers. There are remaining buildings of this brewery. The original 1845 Klotter and Sohn Hamilton Brewery still stands at northeast corner of Stonewall and McMicken Ave. The building next to it is dated at 1887 which was the Sohn building as well.
