Ervin Edward Knight, age 87, of Penn Laird passed away Thursday morning, January 24, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on March 16, 1925 in Elkton, and was a son of the late John and Bessie Morris Knight.
Mr. Knight was a United States Army Veteran. He was employed with the Chesapeake and Western Railroad at an early age and retired after 40 years of employment as an engineer in 1983.
He was married on March 12, 1946 to the former Florine Pearl Jenkins, who passed away in 1997. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Clarence, Dewey and Arnie Knight; 5 sisters, Goldie Knight, Flossie Mae Knight, Orabelle Lam, Rita Smith and Margaret Ann Armentrout and son-in-law Roy Southers.
Surviving are 6 daughters, Ann Hensley (Dennis) of Grottoes, Nancy Southers of Shenandoah, Jean Nesselrodt (Charles) of Mathias, WV, Carolyn Clark (Jeff) of Waynesboro, Delores Thompson (Butch) of Grottoes, Cathy Shifflett (Donald) of Elkton, his son Steve Knight of Port Republic; 1 brother, Elmer Knight of Maryland; Seventeen grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Harrisonbur Chapel of Kyger Funeral Home with the Revs. Matt Homer and Jimmy Kite officiating. Burail will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
