"Additional research would have shown you that numerous pension records dated prior to 1888 for Joseph Deen clearly state a birthdate of May 1, 1830. Family is aware of the contradiction in dates in CSA pension papers of later years, but family records clearly indicate a birthdate of May 1, 1830. This is the birthdate of record for descendents of Joseph Deen."
His disability was the lingering effects of a badly broken left leg he received in a train wreck somewhere in Alabama in January 1865. He also lost the sight in one eye due to an injury received July 22, 1864.(The Battle of Atlanta)
Joseph and Martha were the parents of ten children, including James D. Deen, my great-grandfather. Joseph's granddaughter Kate Deen Middleton was my grandmother, making him my great-greatgrandfather.
