On July 3, 1886, Nathaniel Giles deeded three acres of his property for the purpose of building the Live Oak Primitive Baptist Church and establishing a cemetery. This property was next to Giles's residence located six miles north of Moultrie on the Old Albany Road.

Later, on May 13, 1896, Giles's son, E. H. Giles, [note: this would be the Elisha Hardy Giles buried in the cemetery] deeded an additional two acres to the church to expand the cemetery.

The church was founded because Nathaniel Giles and his family were Primitive Baptist by faith and did not have a nearby Primitive Baptist Church in which to worship. They found it a hardship to travel ten to fifteen miles by horse and wagon to worship with other established Primitive Baptist Church congregations. Therefore, Nathaniel deeded three acres to build the Live Oak Primitive Baptist Church and Cemetery. The Live Oak Primitive Baptist Church opened its doors in 1887 and closed them in 1992.
