Seeing it was not fit to farm last week, some of the young men took advantage of the bad weather and got married. Jake Taylor and Lavina Solmonson were married Wednesday and Walter Grems and Susie Brannon were married Thursday. Each of these young men have a home prepared for their brides, Jake Taylor on the creamery farm and Walter Grems , a cottage at Swan Lake. These are all excellent and industrious young people and best wishes are extended to all. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1909)



Jake. Taylor Succumbs to Heart Attack
Jake Henry Taylor, 77, a carpenter here for more than 10 years, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday [August 20, 1961] of a heart attack at the Cecil Erickson home, where he stayed. He had suffered from a heart condition for several years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Sternborg-Reese Chapel with the Rev. Roy Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in East Side cemetery. Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from this afternoon until time of services.

Mr. Taylor was born Sept. 15, 1883 at Fredericka, the son of MR. and Mrs. Larry Taylor. He was married April 28, 1909 to Lavina Solmonson in Estherville.

Mr. Taylor came to Gruver as a young man and moved to Estherville in 1920 where he worked as a carpenter. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. L.E. (Vivian) Samp, Ottawa, Ill.; two sons, Orval of Estherville and Evan, address unknown; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. One sister, Mrs. Zoe Alcock of Waterloo, also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 21, 1961)

Parsons, all of Waterloo; Burton Carney, Clair Carney, both of Cedar Falls; Melvin Carney, New Hampton; Ronald Carney, Evansville; Mrs. William Starr, La Porte City; Patricia Taylor and Gloria Taylor, both of Swea City; Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Samp, Ottawa, Ill.; and Mrs. David Samp, Peoria, Ill. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 23, 1961)
