Mercedes "Ceady" Croft, 90, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Roaring Spring, died Wednesday morning at Homewood.

She was born in Bakers Summit, daughter of the late Harry and Bernice (Cloud) Carney. She married A. Cletus Croft, and he died June 17, 1998.

Surviving are a son, Jeffrey F. and wife, Tina, of Williamsburg; two grandsons: Patrick M. Croft of Lakemont and Justin L. Croft and wife, Mandy, of Roaring Spring; and four great-grandchildren: Alexis Croft, Zachery Croft, Zane Croft and Zeth Croft.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Bechel; and a brother, Charles Carney.

Ceady was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Roaring Spring, where she formerly had taught Sunday school. She retired from Roaring Spring Blank Book Co. after many years of service. She had also worked in Canton, Ohio, building airplanes during the WWII effort.

She enjoyed flowers, gardening and sewing, and she was an active volunteer fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in her community.

Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring (www.thompsonfh.com), where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, by Home Nursing Agency Hospice Chaplain, Pastor Richard Harter. Interment will be made in Holsinger Cemetery, Bakers Summit.

Contributions in Ceady's memory may be given to the American Cancer Society.
