OBITUARY
Laverne Ethel Pickett, 88, a longtime Sherman County resident died Nov. 17, 2005 at the Goodland Regional Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 9, 1917, on the family farm north of Beardsley, Kan., the daughter of Walter and Cora Lockwood Macho. She attended a country school, Atwood High School and graduated from McDonald High School in 1935.

She married Floyd Pickett Aug. 18, 1937 in Goodland, Kan. They moved to the farm southeast of Goodland in 1946. She enjoyed being a farm wife, helping with harvest, raising plants, doing crafts, canning and freezing produce she raised in the garden, needlework, and later anything her grandchildren were involved in. She was a member of Smokey-Iowa EHU, and adult leader of Glendale Livewires 4-h Club and served on the Election Board. Floyd and Laverne moved to Goodland in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in 2001, her parents and three sisters; Georgia M. Smith, Gertrude Dean and Alberta Archer.

Survivors include two sons Alan Pickett and wife, Pat, of Goodland and Herschel Pickett and wife Eunice of Parker, Colorado; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 21 at Bateman Funeral Home in Goodland with Dr. Chet Ross officiating. Burial took place in the McDonald, Kan. cemetery.
