OBITUARY

Georgia M. Smith was born Oct. 7, 1902 at Horton, Kan., she died April 14, 1987 at the Good Samaritan Center in Goodland where she had been a resident since November, 1984. She lived with her parents Walter and Cora Macho on a farm until they moved in 1903 to a farm in Rawlins County, Kansas, north of Beardsley, Kan.

She grew up there, living in a sod house with her parents and three sisters for several years until they moved into a new frame house.

She helped outside a lot and could saddle and ride a horse, as well as hitch and drive a team of horses.

She graduated from the rural school and attended high school in Atwood, Kan. She taught rural school south of McDonald.

On Aug. 30, 1921 she married Rex Smith of McDonald. Rex was a mechanic and they spent most of their life in the McDonald and Brewster area.

Georgia operated a cafe for many years in Brewster and later a dress shop. She also sold Avon for many years. After retiring from cafe work, she cooked for the Brewster Lions Club for many years.

She had one daughter, Doris Jean. Doris was married to Don Schwerdt of Brewster. They had three children, Kerry, Terry and Marsha Jo.

Doris Jean passed away Aug. 2, 1976. Rex died on Dec. 13, 1979.

Georgia had three sisters, Gertrude Dean of Tiler, Idaho, Alberta Archer of Kanorado, Kan. and Laverne Pickett of Goodland, and many nieces and nephews.

On November 19, 1984 Georgia entered the Good Samaritan Home in Goodland and has continued to live there ever since.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Koons Chapel with Rev. Jay Kump officiating. Burial was in Grace Cemetery in McDonald, Kan.

Memorials in her memory may be made to the Good Samaritan Center at Goodland.
