John E. Anderson, 64 of Pinos Altos died May 20 after a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Anderson of Hanover. He was born in Santa Rita Jan. 1, 1920. He attended grade school in Hanover and high school in Hurley and was valedictorian of his graduating class. He enrolled at State Teachers College in Silver City and after two years, enlisted in the Navy. He served in the Navy from 1940 through 1945. He attended Midshipman s School at Columbia University, NY, where he earned both seamanship and academic awards. He was honorably discharged in 1955 as a Full Lieutenant. Mr. Anderson married Margaret Mary Putnam of Pinos Altos at St. Patrick s Cathedral in El Paso. Oct. 23, 1943. Following the war, they made their home in Albuquerque. He enrolled at the University of NM and received a Bachelor s degree in accounting. He taught accounting at the University for two years and then attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. After returning to Albuquerque he passed the StateBoard as a Certified Public Accountant and began work at Sandia Base Laboratory. He retired in 1975 and moved to Pinos Altos where he and his wife have made their home. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mary and four sisters Mrs. Millicent Seton of Novato, CA, Mrs. Ruth Thedford of Abilene, Tx, Mrs. Virginia Williams of Novato, CA, and Mrs. Betty Gross of Pueblo, Co. Visitation was held May 22 at the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated May 23 at the Pinos Altos Catholic Church with Monsignor A. James Milano officiating. Interment was held at a later date at the Pinos Altos Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Larry Hunt, Ramon Cuevas, James Montoya, Pat Valencia, Bob Brickey and Frank Porter. Honorary pallbearers were Ted McDonald, Gregory Bussiere, Tony Davila. Jack Hill, Richard Fahrlender, Urbano Arrey, Burl Duncan and George Schaeffer. Arrangements by the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.
