John Michael Elenz is the son of Maxamillan and Magdalena Kramer/Elenz. His parents came to the USA from Treves, Prussia which is in the Northern part of Germany now. Having no way to obtain any German records nor can I read german, it is impossible for me to be able to prove a marriage for Maxamillan and Magdalena (Lena) Kramer. However on the census this Elenz family shows up as Alhuis, Adens surnames instead of Elenz. I believe that Max's brother is Peter Elenz, as they name children the same confusing children belonging to one brother or the other. By the 1900 census for Lena (Magdalena Kramer) Elenz she has had 15 children with 11 living. Johan Michael as he is called on his birth certificate was born in the USA, city of Chicago, Cook Co. IL to Max and Magdalena Elenz in 1861 is enumerated on the Census as John M. Elenz a barber through out his entire life. Birth records of the children living have also been available through familysearch.org. The other's have been very hard to trace down.
John Michael Elenz by occupation was a barber not only in his own shop but in other places as well. John married Mary Friehof in 1882 in Chicago, IL and Mary out lived him by only a couple of years.
