MICHAEL HAINLEY TAKES OWN LIFE

Michael Hainley, postmaster at Coupon, and widely known as a former store keeper and lodgeman, took his own life shortly before noon yesterday, by shooting himself while out, presumably for a walk, along the Dysart road, near the Buckhorn hotel.

The lifeless body was found by L.E. Wilt of Williamsburg, who passed along the road at 12.20 o'clock enroute to Glasgow to attend a funeral. He notified Coroner Chester C. Rothrock of this city, who conducted an investigation and ordered the removal of the remains to the morgue of Funeral Director Otto G. Gilden.

The body was in a reclining position, as though the man was sleeping. A 32 calibre revolver was found nearby. Examination showed a bullet wound of the head, the revolver being pressed against the head, above the right ear. The bullet tore through the brain, emerging on the left side. The spot where the body was found is but 100 yards off the Buckhorn road, and near the Buckhorn hotel, west of the city.

Mr. Hainley had been in poor health for some time and was troubled recently with failing eyesight. It is believed that worry over his physical condition resulted in the temporary mental derangement during which he took his own life.

Michael Hainley was born at Franklin Forge, June 3, 1866, and resided at Coupon for many years, being a clerk in the general store. Later he was named as postmaster and moved his office to his residence.

He was widely known as a lodgeman and was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Knights of Malta No. 66, Odd Fellows, Red Men and the Eagles, all of this city.

He is survived by his widow and the following children: George of Gallitzin, Mrs. Irene Dunbar of Garett, Pa.; Mrs. Helen Conrad, Amsby, Pa.; Harry, Howard, Adda, Annie and Alice, at home, and the following brothers and sisters: S.W. Hainley, Portsmouth, Ia.; S.D. Hainley, Osceola Mills; Edgar H. Hainley, Mrs. Nettie Hopkins, Mrs. Annie Swoope and Mrs. Bertha Norris of this city, Mrs. Jennie Will, Blackstone, Va., Mrs. Sallie Walton of this city, Mrs. Laura Fish of Barnesboro. His mother, Mrs. John Harvey of Riddlesburg, also survives. Interment will be made in Rosehill cemetery.
