Gerald McPherson married Orpha Lola Nash on January 2, 1909 in Oswego, Labette county, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald McPherson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 4 Jan 1959 at their home, two and one-half miles west of Chetopa on Highway 166.
Along with their two daughters, Gerald and Orpha raised Gerald's nephew Clayton Landrith from the age of 11 months when his mother (Gerald's sister) Rhuie Vitura McPherson Landrith died as a result of the 1918 influenza epidemic.
Gerald farmed in Labette county until 1925 when he leased the farm and moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he worked at Corn Products for 25 years. In 1951 he, now age 65, and Orpha returned to the farm. Eventually they retired to a home in Chetopa, Kansas.

"Gerald Leo McPherson, 85, of Chetopa died Monday in the Labette County Medical Center in Parsons after four months of illness.
He was born September 2, 1885, near Bartlett and except for 25 years spent in Kansas City, he has lived all his life near there. He was a farmer and a 50 year member of the Grange.
He is survived by his wife, Orpha Lola (Nash) of the home; two daughters, Alma Faye Reppeto of Kansas City, MO, and Vera May Brown of Chetopa; one son,(actually nephew) Ira Clayton Landrith of Kansas City; one brother, Marley Vance McPherson of Dublin, IN; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 pm Thursday, August 5 in the Bates Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Kelly Winlock of the First Baptist Church of Oswego, assisted by the Rev. Carol Holden of Chetopa, will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery,"
