A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Southern Pines with the Rev. Jake Thacker officiating. Burial followed in Marks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Powell Funeral Home in Southern Pines
Mrs. Wilkes was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Hoke County to the late Sam and Nettie Lamb Brown.
She was preceded in death by two sons James L. Wilkes Jr. and Ronald Edward Wilkes; and a granddaughter, Sheila Ann Wilkes.
Survivors include her husband James L. Wilkes; three daughters, Bonnie W. Jones of Ivor, Va., Ann W. Allan of Leesburg, Va., and Karen W. Crampsey of Decatur, Ala.; five brothers, Jimmy Brown and Loyd Brown, both of Southport, Bobby Sam Brown of Milton, Fla., Johnny Brown of Smith, Ala., and Gene Brown of Raeford; three sisters, Pat Slocum of Pinebluff, Gloria Callahan of Laurinburg, and Monetta Johnston of Wagram; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
