Son of James "Lewis" Wilkes Sr. and Martha Elizabeth "Libby" Brown Wilkes of Carrollton, Isle of Wight Co., VA (earlier of Scotland Co., NC); brother of James Lewis "Jim" Wilkes, deceased); Bonnie P. Wilkes Jones, Martha Ann Wilkes Brown Allan, and Karen E. Wilkes Crampsey. Paternal Grandparents James Abraham Wilkes and Emily Maria White Wilkes of Wagram, Scotland Co., NC. Maternal Grandparents James Samuel Brown and Nettie May Lamb Brown of Hoke & Moore Co., NC.
Ronnie was a loving son and brother and loved by all. A member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Carrollton, Isle of Wight Co., VA and attended Smithfield High School. He married Nancy Bagley in 1973 and had two wonderful children.
On Dec. 9, 1986, Ronnie was one of eight men who were working at Virginia Power's Surry Nuclear Power Station in Surry, Isle of Wight Co., VA when an 18" round superheated water pipe burst causing deathly steam burns to eight workers. Six were seriously injured including Ronnie. Ronnie died in the Burn Center of a Norfolk, VA hospital Dec. 15, 1986.
