Lucy was born on November 12, 1867 in Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Her parents were Arnold Romack and Elizabeth Hesford. She lived on a farm in Leray Township in Blue Earth County with her parents until 1886. That summer, her grandmother Mary Ann Hesford & her uncle Orin Hesford came to visit. When they left in September or October, according to Lucy's parents, they abducted Lucy and took her back to Wisconsin. There are many unanswered questions about this episode. Was Lucy having problems at home and wanted to leave? Did she fall in love with Orin? Was she really abducted as her parents claimed?

About seven or eight months after they left Minnesota, Lucy and Orin had their first child, Nellie. This may be an indication of why she left with Orin. No records of their marriage or the birth of Nellie have ever been found. Orin & Lucy moved to Ohio before 1888. They lived in Andover, Ashtabula County with Orin's sister until 1898, and had four more children, including Hattie. They then moved back to Marathon County, Wisconsin, where two more children were born, making seven in all.

In both the 1900 & 1905 census Orin & Lucy lived in Kronenwetter Township. By 1910, they had moved to Bergen Township, and lived in the small town of Moon, in a log house. Around 1927, Lucy separated from Orin. He moved to Minneapolis, where he died in 1936. Lucy continued to live in Marathon County with her daughter, Nellie. Lucy died on October 25, 1946 at Dancy, Marathon County. She is buried in the Moon Cemetery at Moon, in Marathon County, Wisconsin
