Orin was the youngest child of John Hesford and Mary Ann Swan. He was born on November 5, 1859 in Sauk County, Wisconsin, after the Hesford and Romack families had moved there from Ohio in about 1854. Orin married Emma Jane Hines in Sauk County on September 3, 1882. No record has been found of any children of Orin & Emma. Emma must have died soon after the marriage, because Orin married Lucy Jane Romack sometime in 1886. Lucy was the daughter of Elizabeth Hesford and Arnold Romack. She was born November 12, 1867 in Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. Elizabeth was the much older sister of Orin, making Lucy Jane Orin's neice! This marriage caused a lot of trouble in the family. In fact, Elizabeth even claimed that Lucy was abducted by Orin and their mother, Mary Ann.

Orin and Lucy Jane had one child in Wisconsin, seven or eight months after they left Minnesota. They moved back to Ohio before 1888. They lived in Andover, Ashtabula County, where they had four more children, including Hattie. Around 1898, they moved back to Marathon County, Wisconsin, where two more children were born, making seven in all. Orin was listed in the 1900 census as a day laborer and they were renting their home. In 1905, Orin was still a day laborer, but they owned their home in Kronenwetter Township. By 1910, they had moved to Bergen Township, and lived in the small town of Moon, in a log house.

About 1927, Orin moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he died on April 5, 1936. His death certificate says he had worked for the railroad for 40 years up to 1928. He is buried at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis. His grave has been found, but it is unmarked. Lucy Jane continued to live in Marathon County, with her daughter. She died at Dancy, Marathon County on October 25, 1946.
