Sarah "Sallie" Potter was the daughter of Ralph and Nancy Elizabeth Gray Potter. On March 20, 1828, she married Abraham Cantrell, the son of Reverend Abraham and Ann Bennett Cantrell. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Theophilus Powell, JP (Find A Grave Memorial# 33287310). The couple had two sons:

Isaac Cantrell (1832 - 1916)
Reuben Cantrell (1833 - 1916)

When Abraham Cantrell died in 1835, his father assumed guardianship of the two boys. They were enumerated on the 1850 United States Federal Census of Pike County, Kentucky with their grandfather and he bequeathed parcels of land to both in his Will which was probated on October 27, 1858.

On January 7, 1839, the widow married Levi Potter, the son of Benjamin and Susannah Potter, and grandson of Abraham Potter, a Revolutionary War Patriot who fought in the Battle of Cowpens on January 17, 1781. The Daughters of the American Revolution designated him DAR Ancestor Number A204602 to honor his service.

Sarah and Levi Potter had several children:
