"Julius Valentin Paubel was my great-great grandfather and was born in Suhl, Prussia (now Thüringen), Germany, on Sep. 1, 1838. I have a copy of a "Memorial of Baptism" from his Civil War Pension file that he was born on Sep. 1, 1838 and baptised on Oct. 7, 1838. He was presented for baptism by his godfather, John Valentin Bill.

"Julius Paubel served in the Civil War. He served in 1st Regiment - Missouri State Militia - Infantry; Pacific Battalion (Ink's) Home Guard - Infantry (Capt. Christian Idel's Co. D); and 13th Regiment Missouri Cavalry (Capt. I.C.W. Schnell, Co. F).

"Julius Valentine Paubel married Emma Lizzie Jäger Jun. 6, 1870 in St. Louis County, Missouri.

"Second-born child, Edward Herman Paubel, is buried at St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery in Manchester, Missouri - memorial maintained by someone else. He was married to Elizabeth Jane Wiedner, daughter of August Wiedner and Wilhelmine Fegel.

"Their other eight children are linked below."
