Johann Christian Paubel was born in 1812 in Suhl, Thuringia, Kingdom of Prussia, Germany.

He married Margaretha Barbara Hoch in Germany and they had three sons, Julius Valentin, August Herman and Johan Henry.

They emigrated to the U.S., with Christian's brother Johann Veit Paubel and his family, the 28 Jun 1847 aboard the Ship Victoria which sailed from the port of Bremen landing in New Orleans. (The name was spelled "Baubel" on the manifest but they always spelled the name Paubel)

Christian was a tailor by profession and was known as "tailor" Paubel. He purchases 40 acres of land in 1856, next to Veit's 40 acres in Boles township where they also farmed.

He and wife Barbara died sometime after the 1880 Census.
