Passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 at Brian's House in Davison, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 87. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Fostoria United Methodist Church in Fostoria, with Pastor Kay Leitelt officiating. The family will receive visitors 2-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 at Avram Funeral Home in Mayville and 10 a.m. until time of the service at the church Tuesday. Interment will take place at Watertown Township Cemetery. Dorothy was born April 12, 1924 in Mayville to William and Mina (Sherman) Middleton. She was a graduate of Mayville High School class of 1942 and married John Penland Oct. 29, 1946 at Fostoria United Methodist Church in Fostoria. Dorothy was a member of Fostoria United Methodist Women and played the organ at the church for many years. She was also a member of the Mayville/Fostoria Homemakers Group. Dorothy loved spending time with her grandchildren, her church family and also enjoyed baking, quilting and flower gardening. She is survived by her son, Kerry (Lori) of Mayville; daughter, Holli (Mark) Tompkins of Lake Orion; family friend, Vicky Penland of Mayville; four grandchildren, Reality Penland, Lacy (Terry) Mrock, Cory Tompkins, Kayla Tompkins and one great-grandson, Nathan Mrock. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2011; two sisters, Rosella Milner, Lula Martin and one brother, Carl Middleton. Memorials may be made to Fostoria United Methodist Church.
