OBITUARY
Mrs. Eliza Scott
Eliza Emily Forbes was born March 28, 1861, and died March 3, 1933, age 71 years, 11 months and 3 days.
She and Jared Bradford Scott were married at Toulon, Illinois, January 2, 1878. To this union were born seven children: George P. of Batavia, Iowa, Herbert B. of Weldon, Robert W. of Moline, Ill., Thomas of Weldon, Mrs. Elizabeth Reed of Port Byron, Ill., Mrs. Wildred Mitchell and Mrs. Helen Ogburn of Weldon, all of whom are living.
They moved from Bradford to Guthrie Center in true pioneer style with team and covered wagon in 1881. Three years later they returned to Bradford where they lived until 1893 when they moved to Washington, Iowa. In 1908 they moved to Weldon where they lived until their demise.
Mr. Scott died March 3, 1911, preceding his wife exactly 13 years.
Traveling in southern Iowa in high powered cars over paved roads and viewing the farms tilled with modern machinery one can have no conception of the vicissitudes these people faced. Prairie fires, early frosts on unacclimated corn, few doctors and no telephones required patience, courage and perseverance. She met the test. It gave her vigor of body and mind and an understanding heart. She will be greatly missed by her seven children.
