He must have remarried after the death of Doris Cristal Ewing because one of his sons' obituaries say he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. There were 3 boys with Cristal (1 who was born when she died). She had no girls, so Bernard must have had 2 more sometime after 1940.

Bernard Riley Abbott, 68, of Lemons, died unexpectedly on Tues., June 11, 1985, at Novinger.

The son of George Riley and Emma Frances (Cassady) Abbott, he was born July 26, 1916, in Putnam County.

On Dec. 21, 1940, he married Ethel Mae Leach who survives.

Also surviving are: six sons, Donald Abbott and his wife of Graysville, Charles Abbott of Davenport, Ia., Doris Abbott and his wife, Laura Jo, of Claremont Okla., and 3 other sons, two daughters, Margaret Adams of Lemons and Charlotte Lunkwitz of Zweibrucken, Germany; two brothers, Junior Abbott and Journey Abbott, both of Davenport, Ia.; three sisters, Flora Mullins and Ruby Hyle, both of Unionville, and Myrtle Mullins of Grinnell, Ia.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: two brothers, Raymond Abbott and Roy Abbott, and two sisters, Bertha Lewis and Mable Abbott.

Mr. Abbott lived most of his life in Putnam County. He worked for Howard Construction Co. for many years and had driven a school bus for the past five years. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church, Cincinnati, Ia.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 17, 1985, at the Broadlawns Funeral Home in Unionville with the Rev. Donnel Logsdon officiating. Interment was in the Lemons Cemetery.
