This is Kind of an explantion of the surname of Fredrick Tittel's surname. Fredrick is a half-3rd cousin. I am a 5th generation of Bangert. This information was taken from Dr. Igor Pleve's "Gnu Bangert" chart.
Fredrick Tittel, Sr. as he was known in the United States. When Fredrick immigratted to the United States his surname was changed from "Dietel" to "Tittel". His surname on the ship manifest was "Titte".
He was a great-great-grandson of Christian Gottfried Dietel who immigrated from Germany to Russia in 1766, and arrived with the first group of settlers to settle in Oleschna, Russia on July 1, 1767. Some time after July 1, 1767 Christian Gottfried Dietel married Maria Katharina Sophia (MNU) Bangert. She was a widow, of (Gnu Bangert, who she immigrated with from Germany to Russia, with their two children, Friedrich Bangert (1756/57-1838), and his sister Anna Maria Bangert (1759-) arriving Oranienbaum, Russia in July of 1766. Bangert died before they were taken to their final settlement, Oleschna, Russia on July 1, 1767. The Oleschna name was soon changed to "Dietel", a new name that the settlers choose for their new home place.
Christian Gottfried Dietel and Maria Katharina Sophia (Mnu)-Bangert-Dietel had two children born to this union; Christian Dietel born 1768 in Dietel, Russia, and Sophia Dietel born 1773 in Dietel, Russia. This Christian Dietel moved from Dietel colony to Hussenbach colony, Russia in 1788. The colony name "Dietel" is believed to be taken from Christian Gottfried Dietel, for he was probably chosen to be the spoke person to speak for their colony.
