In 1886 the family immigrated to America and settled in south Russell County. Here, the nine-year old lad continued his school work by attending the public school, and also, the parochial school for the purpose of religious training. This instruction culminated in the confirmation which took place in the Immanuel Church at Milberger, April 10, 1892.
The following years the young man spent in the service of his father until June 2, 1907, when he established a home of his own by entering the holy state of matrimony with Miss Maria Hettinger. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters, of which only one son and daughter survive the father. One son and two daughters died in infancy.
In later years Mr. Tittel developed an ailment of the lung, and to that he succumbed May 3, at 8 a.m. after an illness of nearly two years. He was 61 years, seven months and 16 days old. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, his son, John, and daughter, Olinda; one grandchild; three brothers, David, of Bazine; Henry, of Great Bend; George of Russell; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Schroeder, of Boulder, Colo., and a great number of of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Lutheran Immanuel Church. Rev J. Gemaehlich officiating. Burial was at Milberger. (Russell Record, Russell, KS, May 1, 1939)
