Mary Henley Wilder was born 1811 in Wake County, NC, the 5th of 8 known surviving children (2 boys/6 girls) born to planter Col. Hillory Madison Wilder and his wife. Esther Avera.

Polly married on August 5, 1831 to Wiley L. Hinton of Johnston County. He was 22 at the nuptials, and she 20.

Willie & Polly settled into farming in Johnston County, near present day Clayton, and would become parents to 7 known children, the first 3 being born in Johnston County, NC:

* William Henry Hinton, CSA (1832-1912)
* Eliabeth Hinton (1835 - abt 1869)
* Caroline "Carrie" Hinton (ca. 1837-aft 1900)
* Gaston Wiley Hinton, CSA (ca 1841-1902)
* Mary Ann Hinton (1848-1916)
* Victoria Francis Hinton (1853-1893)
* Alice Cora Hinton (ca. 1854-aft 1880)

Willie's widowed father migrated with most of his children to Green County, AL in 1836, and Willie and Polly would eventually join them there. It is not known for certain whether they left in 1836, or removed there some years
after.

Willie L. Hinton died young in Eutaw, Greene County, AL in 1853 at age 44. His wife of 22 years survived him 13 years, passing in 1866 at age 55.

After Willie and Polly died, their children all removed to Hinds County, MS where they are all buried.
