James "Jim" Beltman, age 82, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at his home in Sheldon.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 2, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. David Brower and Rev. Gordon Bloemendaal officiating.

Burial at 10:00 A.M. on Monday at the Hospers Cemetery in Hospers, Iowa.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

James "Jim" Beltman was born on November 18, 1926, in Boyden, Iowa. He was the son of Gerrit and Tillie (Evink) Beltman. He lived his youth in Sanborn, Iowa, where he attended country schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Joyce Van Leeuwen of Hospers, Iowa, on June 6, 1949. They farmed in rural Melvin, later moving to the rural Hospers and Granville, Iowa, area, where they farmed. From that union are his children: Gloria (deceased) and John Peuse of Sioux Center, IA, Dennis and Doris Beltman of Orange City, IA, Arlyn and Elaine Beltman of Alton, IA, Karen and Greg Jeltema of Orange City, IA. Jim and Joyce enjoyed camping and Joyce enjoyed being a stay at home mom. Joyce passed away on June 17, 1987.
He was united in marriage to Gladys Jacobsma of Ocheyedan, Iowa, on July 15, 1988. They lived in rural Hospers, Iowa, until 1991, when they retired and moved to Sheldon, Iowa. During his retirement, Jim drove the Rides Bus and later school bus for the handicapped.

Jim was a former member of the Hospers Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon. In 1991, he transferred his membership to the First Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Everyday was a joyful day that he could enjoy life because of his belief in his Heavenly Father.

He passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at his home in Sheldon.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Gladys Beltman of Sheldon, IA; his children; his step children: Carla and Robert Gray, Curtis and Pamela Jacobsma, Ronna and Charles Dirks, Bruce and Peggy Jacobsma; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 17 step grandchildren; 19 step great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Tony and Evelyn Beltman, Elmer and Stella Beltman, Bill and Kay Beltman; 2 sisters: Wilma Bootsma, Alice and Gary Wiersma.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Joyce; his daughter: Gloria Peuse; his parents; 2 grandsons in infancy: Dereck and DJ Beltman; great grandchild: Kaylee Jean Van Regenmorter; step grandchild: Leah Joyelle Jacobsma.
