Obituary. Edna Elizabeth Shurtz, 86, born June 22, 1925, the fourth child of John and Olive Blunt, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at her son's home in Washougal, Wash.
Edna was born and raised in Jerome. She met Robert Hight, and they married and had one son. While Robert served his country in World War II, he was killed in France. She later married Arnold Shurtz, and together they raised her son. Edna had three daughters who all died in infancy. They were later sealed together as a family in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Edna will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a very hard worker and was fiercely loyal to her family.
Edna is survived by her son, Robert (Karen) Hight of Washougal, Wash.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lola Kolsen, Irene Thieme, Vivian Peterson, Ada Thomas and Maria Eldredge; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three sisters and three brothers.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the Jerome LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 50 E. 100 S. in Jerome, with Bishop Blain Hope officiating. A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Jerome Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome.
