He was born Oct. 25, 1934, in Dunlap, Ill., to Myron and Maude Hayes Bohannan. He married Ruth Hill on March 29, 1953, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Melvin Jr. (and Cindy) of Oklahoma, Richard (and Brenda) of Peoria, Tommy (and Cheryl) of Dunlap, and Carl (and Nina) of Columbia Station, Ohio; three brothers, Al (and Jo) of Topeka, Kan., Marvin (and Nancy) of Fayetteville, Ark., and Cecil (and Ethel) of Williamsfield; 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Joe, on Jan. 5, 2004; three brothers; and three sisters.
He had been a student in the Dunlap School District.
He was a roofer for Peoria Roofing Co., and Kreiling Roofing Co. for many years as well as Tremco Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio. He last worked in shipping and inventory at Bohannan Medical in Peoria.
He was a Master Mason belonging to Alta Masonic Lodge #748. He was a York Rite Mason, a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, and his many trips to Branson, Mo.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
