A mass of Christian burial for Paul Frank Petro Jr. was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 1998 at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Ave., Rock Springs. The Rev. Tom Sheridan officiated. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9, 1998 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Interment was in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael J. Fitzgerald, Tom P. Fitzgerald, Boyd Soltis, Jordan K. Plant, Robert Sellers and Michael Blackwell.

Paul Frank Petro Jr., 87, of 1909 Coral St., Rock Springs died at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 1998 at Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs where he had been a patient since Jan. 24, 1998.

A resident of Rock Springs since 1940, Petro had been in ill health for the past year.

He was born Feb. 3, 1911 in Hudson, the son of the late Paul Frank and Mary Budner Petro Sr. Petro attended schools in Hudson and married the former Eleanor J. McGrath in Riverton on March 28, 1932. She preceded him in death on July 20, 1991.

Petro worked as a miner for Union Pacific Coal Company, and later worked as a warehouseman for FMC Corporation for 23 years until his retirement.

He was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Paul Ronald “Ron” and Holly Petro of Rock Springs; one daughter, Patricia Fitzgerald of Rock Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Robert Smith of Hudson; four sisters, Mary Stoll and Mabel Vinich, both of Hudson, Elizabeth Applehans of Riverton, and Jeanette Cady of Lander; nine grandchildren, Mike Fitzgerald, Keith Fitzgerald, Christopher Petro, Darby Petro and Ashlee Blackwell, all of Rock Springs, Susan Novotny of West Jordan, Utah, Lenny Smith of Monroe, Wash., Corey Petro of Seattle, and Ellee Newton of Casper; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Petro was preceded in death by two brothers, George and John Petro; one sister, Emma Stossel; and one granddaughter, Laura Smith.
