Lydia Porter Duckett was born to Thomas Porter and Sarah Tyrer Duckett in about 1823 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. Her father made a living as a brick layer. She was christened at St. Peter in Liverpool on 2 March 1823.
The 1841 England Census shows her living with the John & Jane Parthington family, working as a servant at age eighteen.
She married Richard Duckett at Church of St. Nicholas in Liverpool on 30 July 1855. He was a widower at the time, making her his second wife. Richard worked in the family profession as a hair dresser/barber; one of five known consecutive generations.
