Funeral services for Dewey Stoddard, who died suddenly at Sioux Falls Tuesday were held at the Congregational church yesterday afternoon with Rev. Clark Harshfield in charge. Pall bearers were Hamlin Turner, Chas. Turner, Gail Plants, L. J. Sievers, John Ramsdell and Gerald Roberts. The American Legion furnished the color guard and firing squad. Members of the choir Mrs. Gail Plants and Mrs. Leonard Seaman?, sang three hymns, "The Ninety and Nine", "Going Home", and "Crossing the Bar." Miss Belle Johnston was at the piano. Interment was made in the Faulkton cemetery. Clarence Dewey Stoddard was born near Cresbard, South Dakota, February 14, 1899, to Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. Stoddard. He grew up in Faulkton where he attended school. During the later years of his life he lived in Sioux Falls where, after several years of failing health, he died December 17, 1940. During his school life he was prominent in athletic activities, and he retained an interest in such activities throughout his life. During the world War, he went to France as a volunteer. He spent fourteen and one-half months in active service. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elfie N. Stoddard of Faulkton, five sisters and two brothers. The sisters are: Mrs. Clarence Sievers, Faulkton; Mrs. Victor Babcock, Bristol; Mrs. Ruth Bentson, Aberdeen; Mrs. Glen Shaffer, Jamesport, Missouri; and Mrs. Allrue Barkey, Peoria, Ill. The two brothers are: George E. Stoddard, Boulder, Colo., and Chas. E. Stoddard, Sioux Falls.

Clarence Stoddard was married to Katheryn Sievers on 3 September 1920 in Brown County, South Dakota. They were later divorced. He then married Sybil Thelen on 26 Mar 1927 at Orient, South Dakota. They also were divorced. No children were born to either marriage.
