Steven Allen Kranz was born on July 28, 1944, in Gaylord, Minnesota. He was the son of Roland and Emily (Trout) Kranz. Steve was baptized as an infant on August 20, 1944, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 30, 1958, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. He attended Gaylord High School. He entered active military service in the United States Army and served his country as a radio operator. He was awarded a Marksman Badge and a Parachutist Badge as well as a Good Conduct Medal. Steve received an Honorable Discharge on June 7, 1968. On May 17, 1967, Steve was united in marriage to Michele Becker in Watertown, South Dakota. This marriage was blessed with six children.
Steve resided in Gaylord, Minnesota for many years. His joy of the outdoors led him to Blackduck, Minnesota, for a short time before returning back to his hometown. Upon completion of his military service he began his career as a flight instructor. His ambition to be home led him into farming, and raising poultry. He later found successes and freedom in his entrepreneurial endeavors. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Steve was also a member of the American Legions in Gaylord, Blackduck and Hutchinson, Minnesota. Steve took pride in his family farm, and watching his children's sporting events. He liked socializing with his family and was always looking for a good laugh. Steve also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time in Northern Minnesota. His children blessed him with 25 beautiful and healthy grandchildren.
Steve passed away very unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Sanford Health Center in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 66 years. He will be dearly missed.
