SIMON BRUBAKER Son of Elinas M. and Cora Sell Brubaker, residing in the Loop, in Frankstown township, died of diphtheria at 3 o'clock Sunday morning, after a brief illness. Five other members of the family were stricken with the disease and another child, Bertha, aged 7, is in a serious condition, while the mother, who is in delicate health, has broken down under the strain and sorrow and is confined to her home in a serious condition. Simon was aged 11 years, 10 months and 6 days. He attended the Loop public school and only a short time ago passed the examination which entitled him to enter the Hollidaysburg High school next year. He is survived by his parents and six brothers and sisters, as follows: Myra, Elmer, Lloyd, Hirman, Emmert, Clyde and Wesley, all at home. He was a member of the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren and Sunday school. The funeral took place this afternoon at 2 o'clock and was conducted privately, interment being made in Carson Valley cemetery. (Altoona Mirror, Monday, May 21, 1917)
