Pearl Black Cook, formerly of Chester, SC, and Union, SC, passed away on September 11, 2011, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill.

Born on August 2, 1925, in Monarch, SC; daughter of the late Jeff Hayes Black (1880–1951) and Bertha Childers Black (1899–1959); wife of James H. Cook (1923–2006) for 64 years.

A graduate of Lockhart High School; a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church where she served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, and sang in the choir; attended Christ Ridge Presbyterian Church; retired from Her Majesty Industries; spent her retirement years working in her gardens and was an avid Scrabble player.

Survived by a son, Jimmie H. Cook (Susan); daughters, Joyce Cook Mincey and Sharon Cook; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Beulah Black; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Also preceded in death by brothers, Fred Hayes Black (1922–1980), Carl J. Black (1923–1992), and Tommie Allen Black (1936–2008); and sisters, Eva Mae Black (1928–1986) and infant (1931–1931).

The family received friends Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Holcombe Funeral Home, Union, SC.

Services were held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Brian Bishop and Rev. Michael Dixon; burial was in Union Memorial Gardens.
