Sarah was the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Lord) Stanton, and her father Thomas was the first white man who joined William Chesebrough in the new settlement of Stonington.
Sarah was married twice. First to Thomas Prentice in Cambridge, Middlesex Co., MA on March 20, 1675 and had four children:
1) Thomas b 13 Jan 1676, m Maria Russell 28 Dec 1709
2) Grace b 1678
3) Samuel b ca 1680 m Esther Hammond
4) Rev. John b 1682 m. 1st widow Mary Gardner 4 Dec 1705 and m 2d widow Prudence Swan.
Her first husband Thomas Prentice died the 19 Apr 1685 she married in May 1686 William Denison, son of Capt. George and Anna (Borodell) Denison of Stonington. Three children were born:
1) William b 24 Mar 1687 d 24 Feb 1724 m Mercy Gallup
2) Sarah b 14 Apr 1689 d Aug 1774 m John Avery
3) George b 28 Feb 1692 d 19 Oct 1777 m Lucy Gallup
