John Quincy Huss was a son of John Huss and Elizabeth Heaton.
John's first marriage was to Saline Frazier. John married Sarah Wilson in 1856 in Pennsylvania. The family moved to Iowa in 1866.
John and Sarah had children: Delilah, Frank, Harriet, Abijah, Ida, Josephine, Josie, Jessie, and Charles.

John Q. Huss, a well known Fairfield township farmer, died at his home six miles northwest of this city Saturday morning from hemorrhage of the bowels, after an illness of only four days. Mr. Huss was sixty-five years of age. He was born in Waynesburg, Penn., where most of his life was spent prior to removal to Iowa. He came to this county in 1866, and during most of the years intervening has resided in the neighborhood in which he died. He leaves a wife and eight children, the youngest of whom is about nineteen years of age. Mr. Huss was a good man and an excellent citizen. He made many friends during his residence here who will learn of his death with regret and extend their sympathies to the stricken family. The remains were interred in Evergreen Cemetery, this city, Sunday, Rev. George P. Magill conducting the services.
