Esther Belle Langley Smith, 30 years, five months, 19 days, died July 23, 1944 in Felthut Hospital, Stafford, Kansas. She was born February 04, 1914 on farm in Stafford County, Kansas, the oldest daughter of Clarence Oliver and Mary Elizabeth (Tharp) Langley. Preston was her childhood home, where she graduated with the class of 1933 from high school. With her parents, she moved to Pratt in 1934. She was united in marriage to Herbert (Bert) Smith, on Oct. 28, 1936 in Cherokee, Okla. To this union one son was born.
She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Bert, a on; her parents, two bothers, Cpl. Glenn M. Langley, somewhere in England; Eugene Langley, S 2/C, Clearfield, Utah; three sisters, Mrs. Hazel White, Mrs. Mildred Barnhill and Miss Juanita Langley of Pratt. Esther was a faithful wife, a tender devoted mother and a loyal generous friend. Her death brings a great loss to many hearts of her family and friends. She had been a great sufferer for the past six months, preceding her death, though everything that loving hearts and hands could do was done to releave her suffering, she failed to survive. Funeral services were conducted from the Sappington-Calbeck Chapel. Rev. R. P. Crawford officiated. Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Pratt.
