Charles Blakely
Charles Michael "Mike" Blakely, 53, Topeka, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at his home after complications from long-term diabetes and hypertension.
Mr. Blakely was employed by C.G. Blakely and Co. in Topeka and the Department of Agriculture in Fort Worth, Texas.
He was born May 1, 1949, in Topeka, the son of Charles Graham Blakely III and Audrey Marie Smith Blakely. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1967 and the University of Kansas.
Mr. Blakely was an Eagle Scout, God and Country Award recipient, Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow member and was a scoutmaster with Jayhawk Council Boy Scouts of America. He actively participated in Model United Nations for several years and was a member of the ROTC at KU. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an active league bowler at Gage Bowl and an avid reader.
Survivors include three brothers, Thomas D. Blakely, Wyomissing Hills, Pa., James K. Blakely, Silver Lake, and David S. Blakely, Topeka.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be after the service at the chapel.
