Mrs. Marie Waak, nee Bartz, was born September 25, 1868, at Saurau, Brandenburg, Germany. She emigrated to this country in 1888, first living in New York City, then going to Soiux City, Iowa, where she was joined in marriage to Ernest Strube, March 15, 1891. Two daughters were born to them at Sioux City, - Martha and Augusta, the latter preceding the mother in death after the family had moved to Antigo about twenty-five years ago. Mrs. Waak made Antigo her home. Her first husband, Ernest Strube, passed away in 1913. In 1916 Mrs. Waak was married to Theodore Waak and since that time has been living at the latter's home near Manitowoc. She was in good health until several months ago when her health began to fail. Her death occurred last Saturday evening, October 24. Burial took place in Manitowoc on Thursday of this past week. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. George Albright, Messrs. George and Herman Strube and Mrs. George Falkenhagen, a sister of Mrs. Waak. Besides her husband Mrs. Waak is survived by the two step-sons, George and Herman, already mentioned, also her children, Martha, now Mrs. Albright, Ernest, Gerhard, and Frederick of Manitowoc, and Wilfred, in the U.S. Navy. Mrs. Waak, while residing here, was a member of the Unity Evangelical church, and a willing worker in its Ladies Society. Her many friends deplore her death in the prime of her life and will always hold her in kind remembrance.
