Martha Bertha Ida Meinke was born December 6, 1911 on a farm north of Kramer in Lancaster Co. The youngest child of George J. Meinke Sr. and Anna Maruhn Kahle Meinke, she was baptized that same day by the Rev. Fr. Schwartz, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church at Kramer. When Martha was less than a year old, her father died suddenly. She was orphaned when her mother died when she was ten years old. She was raised by her brother, George Jr. and her sister, Minnie.

Martha attended St. John's Parochial School through the eighth grade and was confirmed by the Rev. Albert Cholcher at St. John's in 1926. She was always a lover of the outdoors, nature, and animals. She worked with her brothers and sisters on the family farms. Those farms are still in the family ownership. Martha loved flowers and was an accomplished seamstress.

She married H. Herman Masenthin Sr. in Council Bluffs, Iowa on December 6, 1938 by Rev. Miller. She and her husband farmed near Kramer and later near Dorchester. They had one son, Herman Jr.

Martha's husband died in May 1980. She continued to live with her son on the family farm until February of 1991 when a series of strokes required a move to the Wilber Nursing Home. On November 18 she suffered another stroke. She died December 6, 1994 having reached the age of 83 that day.

She is survived by her son, Herman "Roy" Masenthin of Dorchester; special friend, Bob Olson Jr. of Dorchester; sisters-in-law, Arline Meinke and Minnie Dittmer of Crete and Olga Masenthin of Osage City, Kansas; cousins, nieces and nephews.
